As the Water Operations Manager, you’ll lead the charge in ensuring events are executed seamlessly—on time, within budget, and at a world-class standard.
Your role? To oversee the on-water framework that brings this ground breaking race series to life. Don’t just be part of the action—make it happen!
Start - Jan 2025
Salary - £50-£60k pro rata / per annum
Contract - part time / 3 days per week, 150 days per annum
Hybrid - working from home, office based (London) and international travel
Duties:
- Liaise and build strong working relationships with the local authorities and key stakeholders - working closely with councils, harbour masters, port authorities, coastguard etc.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams such as marketing, hospitality, partnerships, broadcast and sporting, to ensure all departments on-water requirements are met.
- Hands on and practical orientation, ideally with a maritime knowledge or experience including operating powerboats and basic understanding of engines, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Provide expertise race course feasibility, particularly around the operational & safety considerations of racing. This requires an understanding of nautical maps & charts, depth, tide, channel markers, maritime laws etc.
- Environmental planning and management of water operations at each race location, ensuring the driving of new sustainable initiatives.
- Compile and share event documentation including risk assessments, method statements and emergency event safety plans and any other on water plan or schedule. Contribute to other documentation and plans involving boat / vessel movements.
- Procure and manage all on-water assets (boats, PWC’s, fenders, etc.) and ensure they are fit for purpose, stored securely and inventoried and meet all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Procure and manage in country water operations personnel for each event, including contracting, briefing, training and managing operations.
- Manage the logistics of the on-water event set up build and breakdown. To include all required pontoons, jetties, buoys and fenders.
- Manage GPS controlled buoys including management during live events, and any technical updates or structural fixing.
- Manage any on-water towing and salvage, 3rd party vessels (marshal / rescue / safety).
- Run daily on-water staff meeting / briefing.
- Ensure plans are communicated accurately, on time and include all necessary departments.
- Excellent adaptably to lead and manage new local teams and differing equipment at each event.
Experience:
- RYA Powerboat Level 2 or equivalent.
- RYA Advanced Powerboat and RYA Safety Boat Certificate are advantageous.
- Clean driving license - experience of towing an advantage.
- An understanding of nautical maps & charts, depth, tide, channel markers, maritime laws and a basic understanding of engines, maintenance and trouble shooting.
- Experience in a water / marine environments - operational & planning.
- Capability/knowledge of obtaining various water permits & approvals from port and water authorities.
- Experience of working with and managing temporary personnel / contractors.
